Custom Foot Orthotics

Custom Foot Orthotics

Personalized Support to Help You Move More Comfortably

The way your feet move and support your body can influence walking, running, exercise, work, and other daily activities. When foot mechanics contribute to pain or make it harder to stay active, custom orthotics may be one part of the solution.

At Granite State Physical Therapy, custom orthotics are designed around your individual foot structure, movement needs, and activity level.

What Are Custom Foot Orthotics?

Custom orthotics are supportive devices worn inside your shoes and created specifically for your feet. Unlike standard inserts purchased at a pharmacy, sporting goods store, or online, custom orthotics are based on an individual evaluation and are intended to provide targeted support based on your specific needs.

Orthotics may help improve how forces are distributed through the foot and support more comfortable movement during activities such as walking, running, hiking, sports, or prolonged standing. An orthotics evaluation may be appropriate when foot mechanics or positioning appear to be contributing to pain, reduced mobility, difficulty with activity, or recurring symptoms.

Custom orthotics may be considered when foot mechanics or positioning appear to be contributing to:

  • Heel or arch pain
  • Foot and ankle discomfort
  • Overuse injuries
  • Tendon-related problems
  • Recurrent discomfort with walking or running
  • Difficulty tolerating prolonged standing or other activities

Because every person’s symptoms and movement patterns are different, your physical therapist will determine whether orthotics are appropriate and how they may fit into your overall treatment plan.

Your Custom Orthotics Evaluation

The process begins with an assessment of your symptoms, activity needs, and how your feet may be affecting movement and function. If custom orthotics are appropriate, casting is used so the orthotics can be created for your individual needs. Once your orthotics are ready, your physical therapist can help you incorporate them into daily activities, exercise, or your rehabilitation program.

If foot or ankle discomfort is limiting your ability to walk, exercise, work, or participate in the activities you enjoy, contact Granite State Physical Therapy to learn more about custom orthotics and schedule an evaluation.
